Transformation Tuesday

This post is SUPER late, it is almost Wednesday where I live! But, I needed to share with you my vintage formal dress for my transformation Tuesday.
Stare in amazement:

It is a vintage black formal gown with gold, black, and silver beading on the top that stops at the natural waist.

In its full glory:

This marvellous piece of clothing was given to me by a family member in great condition! All it needed as a few extra beads added on, some re-stitching of the hem where it has been stepped on and ripped out, and finally some adjustments to the elastic that helps hold the dress up.

This dress is by far one of my favorite finds and pieces! It is by far more stellar in person! I mean who can go wrong with a black dress?!

If you enjoyed this thrifty find and want to see more hit up that like button and follow me!

Stay thrifty my friends!

Find of The Day

Hey there gorgeous!

Today, I went out to dinner with my main squeeze. I’m eyeballing you MR. Anyway, while out eating I was looking around at the shop and found these adorable little containers.

Aren’t they pretty?! I may be biased, considering yellow and pearls are just a few of my favourite things. They look almost vintage as well which is another win in my book!

What do you think about these guys?

Like, share, and comment!

See you soon!

What is ahead!

What to look forward to:

– White lace covered sunglasses

– junk jewelry

– Easy wash out hair dye

– inspiration for the crafting soul

And much more! Sorry for the jet lag! I hope everyone enjoys what is in store! 🙂

ModCloth inspired military dress from a thrift store find

Okay let us face the truth my fellow crafters, we normally start our crafts to meet a need or want.  I started to craft to get the things I wanted, for example a cute tote bag, a feather hair peice, or the perfect skirt.  When I meet my needs by crafting they are not exact replicas but they are close and a whole lot cheaper.  Fabric however has become more expensive, leading most handy dandy crafters to patrole thrift stores for useable fabric, cheap plates, and peices that can be altered.  Changing thrift store items are some of my favorite crafts.

Lately I have been craving the cute ultra mini dresses out there.  Plus I love the toughness of the military style with cute girly girl accents such as heels and bows.  While thrift store shopping I found this dress, featured below.  I knew it had great potential.

How I altered this dress was easy peasy.  Since it was pretty much my size *the tie back helps me make the dress tighter when neccesary*. All I had to do was cut and hem the bottom and sleeves.

This dress cost me less than 2 dollars!!!!

Here was some of my inspiration: *images via ModCloth

-Find a thrift dress your size but not your style.

– measure from the seam line attaching the skirt to the bodice and measure to the length you desire.  NOTE: have someone else do this part for you while the dress is on!!!

– Mark with chalk.

-Cut where you marked.

– Repeat for sleeves.

– Press your new dress.

– Put it on and bask in your handmade glory.

Spoof Proof Flower Clip

Today I have a tutorial that is super-duper easy!  You don’t even need to know how to sew to make this clip.  You just need to be handy with a lighter and able to use a glue gun.

At my house I am a master with a glue gun, like a glue gun ninja!  I have wanted to make some new clips, bows can get tiring.  While digging through a bargain fabric bin i found a roll of silk for like 32 cents.  LIGHTBULB!!!  I bought some more silk and grabbed a 2 dollar bag of beads.

Remember you cannot screw up this tutorial so if you have shied away from DIY flower clips, fear no more!  These clips would be perfect sewn on to a belt, or fancied up for a bridal clip, or for brides maids.  My favorite is wearing it with jeans and a tee.

What you will need:

– Lighter (I used a wind resistant one)

– Silk

– Beads

– Hot glue gun

– Felt

– Wax paper

– Alligator clip (I used a repurposed one)

– Scissors

If you prefer to sew the beads on you will need:

– Needle

– Matching thread

PLEASE NOTE:  This will be my first REAL tutorial, I will try my best to explain every step.  If you find something that isn’t clear, or you do not understand please let me know.

Step 1: Cut a strip of your silk, you will not need too much.

Step 2: Cut a square  from the strip.  Mine was more of a rectangle.  There is no set measurement, just eye-ball it.  Remember you cannot screw this up!

Step 3:  Use your lighter to heat seal (Burn) the edges of the silk.  this will cause the silk to curve in and picker around the rim.  Be sure to burn on the silky side, for that is the side you want to be the inside you your flower.

Step 4:  Now you need to cut a slightly smaller rectangle. Make a slightly smaller circle out of that rectangle.

Step 5: Heat seal the smaller circle’s edges.  Now you will have 2 circles one small enough to fit inside the larger one.  If not then burn the smaller ones edges a little bit more, this will shrink it some more.  BEWARE, too much heat will cause holes to form in your silk!

Step 6:  Repeat making smaller rectangles and circles.  Heat seal their edges and stack them inside one another by size, largest on the bottom, smallest on the top. This will give you the shape of a flower.

Step 7: I will show a picture of sewing the beads on.  But to glue the beads on just add a dot of hot glue on to the bead and place them in the center of the smallest circle.  Position anyway you like, then move on to Step 8.

Step 8:  Cut a cirle of felt to hide your stitches. Even if you hot glued your beads on I think the felt makes it look more professional.  But the felt is your choice.

Step 9:  Fire up your glue gun and hot glue your felt circle to the back of your flower, where you will be placing your clip.

Step 10: Fold your wax paper and place your alligator clip onto it, this makes it easier to prevent sticking, and an unusable clip.

Step 11:  Hot glue your alligator clip to your flower.

Step 12: Pull off any glue strings, flip over and admire your handy work!

Step 13: Now wear your amazing creation!

I hope you all enjoy this tutorial, and love these little flowers! I know I do!

If you dont jiggle something’s wrong with you

My mom’s famous line, “Honey, if you do not jiggle there is something wrong with you!”  And boy is she right.  With Americas strive to become a size smaller.  We have forgotten what a real women looks like.  A real women has hips, a butt, boobs, a belly, and cellulite.  Not that we like having cellulite!  But it is part of life.  We need to be proud of our bodies, not treating them like they are disposable.  I love food, wear a size 14 and I am proud of it!  I think I look good. So why do we strive for model bodies?  Is it because being a size zero is what society has made acceptable, if you are larger, you are viewed as a taboo.  Which is crazy!  Never deprive yourself of what you want, we only have one life to live.  Dont live it always restricting yourself.  Life is too short for that.  So if you are sexy and you know it! Put down those nasty rice chips!  Grab a piece of chocolate and play with your kids!  Kiss your husband or boyfriend.  And enjoy every small moment that make life so amazing.

I understand that it is important to live healthy, but do not let your weight or jean size run your life.

Now love your body, it is the only one you have.

Making Your Photos More Desirable To Your Audience

I have recently acquired a Ipod touch for Christmas, and I discovered the App store!  I downloaded many things to my Ipod, such as a calorie counter, Sudoku, Tango to talk to my boyfriend, and some camera apps.  I could not believe all the different camera applications the App store had to offer!  Me being very cheap, I opted for the FREE camera apps.  I even downloaded a free photo editor to give my pictures the umphoof they needed.  Me being the excitable person I am, I immediately started taking many pictures of me, making them look better.  Then I looked through my camera’s pictures…  Thinking about my first failed store, I was debating how to make me more desirable to my audiences.  First appearance is a MUST!  When you are shopping, you are looking for something.  Let’s pretend that you are looking for one of a kind bracelet for your niece’s birthday.  You are looking through ShopHandmade, because you prefer to buy handmade.  You find the bracelet you have in mind, but what lured you in to pick this said bracelet.  The picture that is the bracelet’s icon picture.  If it isn’t clear and appealing, you would not have chosen it.

So what makes a picture appealing? Natural light is a must!  Pictures just do not look the same in artificial light.  Also how you present them, maybe on a blank canvas so the viewer can imagine it on themselves, or better yet on someone willing. Let people see your wares on someone to give the viewer a impression of how it may look on them.  If all other actions have been taken, use Photoshop.

Here is an example of some things I have made using my camera:

Flower Clip Taken Outside on Sister

This bridal clip isn’t too bad, as you can tell I took this picture outside, and on my unwilling sister.

Hopefully these pictures can give you a taste of what all you can do to make your pictures even more amazing.  Or if you are just learning how to make your wares more desirable.  I hope I have helped you in some way.  If nothing else, entertained you.  All these pictures are mine, do not steal them and make them your own.  If you are interested in the bridal clip, I am debating making a tutorial on how to make it, let me know if you think I should in the comments below!

New name

Okay, I have changed the name of my blog from Maeflyoriginals to Stitchamaroo.  I do not use Maeflyoriginals any longer, so there is no longer a store under that name.  Stitchamaroo is the new name, new blog, new lifestyle.  Pull up a virtual chair, drink some virtual tea, and enjoy everything stitchamaroo will have to offer.  New posts will be up in the coming week.  So stay tuned!

Kids Felt Activity Book! NO-SEW!!

Okay! So I have postponed the pot holder caddy tute!  Reason being, I have to share this little project that I started on that is virtually no-sew!!!  Yes, I said an easy NO-SEW project!  I will not be posting a tute for this project, because there are so many endless possibilities for this project!  The size I made is perfect for on the go moms to slip down in their purse to entertain their child on a car ride or in a waiting room, or anywhere.  Its mess free because the velcro on the back the kids can stick it down and go, and moms can rest assured no pieces will be left behind!  So take a peek below at the kids felt activity book and let your mind wander and imagine all sorts of possibilities for your kids book!  If interested in buying a activity book instead please email me at

Please note that mine is not completed for the fact that I ran out of velcro pieces….

In MaeFlyOriginals news:
I have made a floral candle holder.  Perfect for weddings! This item is posted in my online store
You tell me what color roses or flower you want (one from your bouquet or scheme would be ideal).  And pick your color of ribbon around the base (does not have to be the same color as the flower).  Then let me know if you would like to have a candle already included in your candle holder (if so what color).  Finally, Let me know how many you would like to have.  Ask about wholesale discounts.
