Motivational Monday

Hola,

I am just about to graduate college (this Saturday) so I took the weekend off to spend time with the main one and relax. But, today is Monday! The beginning of the week! So we have to start it off right with a Motivational Monday! Let’s get this week headed in the right direction!

First, I wanna share a picture with you all.

Above, is a crocheted infinity scarf in the process using my own pattern using a bobble stitch.

My mother taught me how to crochet when I was young. I have always been interested in crafts. My mother could not sew, but she could crochet and embroider like no one else. She passed both of these trades on to me. Both of which I enjoy very much.

My mom basically raised me and my older sister herself, even before my parents divorced my dad worked strange hours and went out with friends. Leaving all three of us to spend time together. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I always have been and always will be closer to my mom.

While, I was out and about I saw this box of fun!

This is a kit from the company Seedling. (Not endorsed) that has things inside of it such as: cards, balloon boat, drawing book, dominos, etc.. All things you could do with someone. The pack is geared towards more little ones. However, anyone could use this! I think it could be a fun date night box or a rainy day box.

To tie my mother and this pack together. When I was in college I became really sick. Most of it had to do with anxiety and mental illness. My mother being the Wonder Woman she is, made me a box. A calm box if you would. It contained: coloring books she made, crayons, a toy, a small craft kit, a stress reliever, a stuffed animal, and some snacks. I’m sure there was more but these things stand out. I had one box at school and one at home for when I came home on weekends. This box really helped and made me feel better and loved.

Making these boxes are easy. You can go to the nearest dollar store and gather supplies. That is where my mother got the toy, stuffed animal, and craft kit. There is someone in your life who could use one it may even be yourself. Winter is coming where I am and in many places. I imagine the elderly would love to have a busy box of sorts. It could even be a wonderful Christmas present.

There are an extraordinary amount of people out there who struggle with anxiety and other issues. We have to remember that just because your brain doesn’t work like theirs doesn’t make what they are going through any less real and terrifying. Your body is going against itself it seems.

If you know someone who could benefit from a box such as the pack above make them one. Also, if you haven’t talked to your mom or whoever is your mother figure in a while, call her, shoot her a text.

We have to take care of one another or else nothing is going to get better, it’s really not.

Transformation Tuesday

Bonjour!
This post is SUPER late, it is almost Wednesday where I live! But, I needed to share with you my vintage formal dress for my transformation Tuesday.
Stare in amazement:

It is a vintage black formal gown with gold, black, and silver beading on the top that stops at the natural waist.

In its full glory:

This marvellous piece of clothing was given to me by a family member in great condition! All it needed as a few extra beads added on, some re-stitching of the hem where it has been stepped on and ripped out, and finally some adjustments to the elastic that helps hold the dress up.

This dress is by far one of my favorite finds and pieces! It is by far more stellar in person! I mean who can go wrong with a black dress?!

If you enjoyed this thrifty find and want to see more hit up that like button and follow me!

Stay thrifty my friends!

ModCloth inspired military dress from a thrift store find

Okay let us face the truth my fellow crafters, we normally start our crafts to meet a need or want.  I started to craft to get the things I wanted, for example a cute tote bag, a feather hair peice, or the perfect skirt.  When I meet my needs by crafting they are not exact replicas but they are close and a whole lot cheaper.  Fabric however has become more expensive, leading most handy dandy crafters to patrole thrift stores for useable fabric, cheap plates, and peices that can be altered.  Changing thrift store items are some of my favorite crafts.

Lately I have been craving the cute ultra mini dresses out there.  Plus I love the toughness of the military style with cute girly girl accents such as heels and bows.  While thrift store shopping I found this dress, featured below.  I knew it had great potential.

How I altered this dress was easy peasy.  Since it was pretty much my size *the tie back helps me make the dress tighter when neccesary*. All I had to do was cut and hem the bottom and sleeves.

This dress cost me less than 2 dollars!!!!

Here was some of my inspiration: *images via ModCloth

Spoof Proof Flower Clip

Today I have a tutorial that is super-duper easy!  You don’t even need to know how to sew to make this clip.  You just need to be handy with a lighter and able to use a glue gun.

At my house I am a master with a glue gun, like a glue gun ninja!  I have wanted to make some new clips, bows can get tiring.  While digging through a bargain fabric bin i found a roll of silk for like 32 cents.  LIGHTBULB!!!  I bought some more silk and grabbed a 2 dollar bag of beads.

Remember you cannot screw up this tutorial so if you have shied away from DIY flower clips, fear no more!  These clips would be perfect sewn on to a belt, or fancied up for a bridal clip, or for brides maids.  My favorite is wearing it with jeans and a tee.

What you will need:

– Lighter (I used a wind resistant one)

– Silk

– Beads

– Hot glue gun

– Felt

– Wax paper

– Alligator clip (I used a repurposed one)

– Scissors

If you prefer to sew the beads on you will need:

– Needle

– Matching thread

PLEASE NOTE:  This will be my first REAL tutorial, I will try my best to explain every step.  If you find something that isn’t clear, or you do not understand please let me know.

Step 1: Cut a strip of your silk, you will not need too much.

Step 2: Cut a square  from the strip.  Mine was more of a rectangle.  There is no set measurement, just eye-ball it.  Remember you cannot screw this up!

Step 3:  Use your lighter to heat seal (Burn) the edges of the silk.  this will cause the silk to curve in and picker around the rim.  Be sure to burn on the silky side, for that is the side you want to be the inside you your flower.

Step 4:  Now you need to cut a slightly smaller rectangle. Make a slightly smaller circle out of that rectangle.

Step 5: Heat seal the smaller circle’s edges.  Now you will have 2 circles one small enough to fit inside the larger one.  If not then burn the smaller ones edges a little bit more, this will shrink it some more.  BEWARE, too much heat will cause holes to form in your silk!

Step 6:  Repeat making smaller rectangles and circles.  Heat seal their edges and stack them inside one another by size, largest on the bottom, smallest on the top. This will give you the shape of a flower.

Step 7: I will show a picture of sewing the beads on.  But to glue the beads on just add a dot of hot glue on to the bead and place them in the center of the smallest circle.  Position anyway you like, then move on to Step 8.

Step 8:  Cut a cirle of felt to hide your stitches. Even if you hot glued your beads on I think the felt makes it look more professional.  But the felt is your choice.

Step 9:  Fire up your glue gun and hot glue your felt circle to the back of your flower, where you will be placing your clip.

Step 10: Fold your wax paper and place your alligator clip onto it, this makes it easier to prevent sticking, and an unusable clip.

Step 11:  Hot glue your alligator clip to your flower.

Step 12: Pull off any glue strings, flip over and admire your handy work!

Step 13: Now wear your amazing creation!

I have made a floral candle holder.  Perfect for weddings! This item is posted in my online store www.maeflyoriginals.artfire.com

You tell me what color roses or flower you want (one from your bouquet or scheme would be ideal).  And pick your color of ribbon around the base (does not have to be the same color as the flower).  Then let me know if you would like to have a candle already included in your candle holder (if so what color).  Finally, Let me know how many you would like to have.  Ask about wholesale discounts.
